About BLC-Tanzania
BLC stands for Blue Life Conservancy, a non-profit, non-governmental
organisation founded in 2022 and officially registered in 2025 under the NGO Act No. 24 of 2002 (as
amended). BLC-Tanzania promotes a climate-resilient, zero-carbon blue economy through
the sustainable management of aquatic and marine ecosystems.
We work collaboratively with the Government of Tanzania, communities, and partners to support
sustainable aquatic food systems, including fisheries, aquaculture, and agriculture, alongside
ecotourism and biodiversity conservation. Our efforts focus on restoring and conserving coral reefs,
seagrasses, mangroves, rivers, lakes, wetlands, and catchment forests, as well as protecting key aquatic
species such as marine mammals, birds, and agrobiodiversity.
Our work contributes to Tanzania’s national and international commitments under frameworks such as the
UNFCCC, CBD, SDGs, Ramsar Convention, and the UN Decade of Ocean Science. We actively support national
priorities, including the NDCs, Blue Economy Policy, National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan
(NBSAP), and Vision 2050. BLC is committed to inclusive development by empowering youth, women, and
persons with disabilities.
